Evaluation

The programme is evaluated in a number of ways including:

External

In 2004 John Dalgety, formerly Director of Corporate Strategy, conducted an extensive review of the Programme. John's report concluded that the Award -

"Brings significant benefits to participants, schools and the wider community. Participants consistently reported that gaining the Award had increased their confidence, self-awareness, maturity and sense of responsibility. Teachers and families also recognised improvements in team-working, leadership and interpersonal skills".

School Champions

School Champions also provide regular evaluation of the Programme through a review process with Outward Bound Metro.

Participants

Each year participants evaluate the Award. This is done principally through a review process when an instructor meets each participant to review their contribution and to assess whether the Award can be made to that participant. This provides an opportunity for a participant to provide feedback and evaluation on the Award. Comments from participants include -

"I feel amazing about the experience, it was one of the best things I have ever done in my life so far. The people who paid for this to happen are the nicest people on the planet. I am very thankful for what they have done and wish them all the best"
Mark, 17

"Staying out overnight on the course was difficult as we were used to heating and toilets, but we all helped each other through it. The community project helped everyone gain trust in each other and it helped us learn skills and realise what we were capable of. I have learnt that when things get hard, you have to keep on at it and give it the best you can."
